Konami's classic PES PSP gameplay comes to life again in this incredible new mod. PES, much like the early years on PSP, benefits from the slower and more tactical pace – every pass, every run needs to be well thought out, and attacking rashly will lead to devastating consequences. Somehow, the modders have managed to implement current season squads while keeping the perfect PES balance and mix of casual and competitive play. Master League is still chaotic and descriptive – now all it needs to be is great. Youth development has improved, no doubt, and transfers seem realistic.

As for the visuals, I was stunned by what they were able to do – proper HD kits, stadium lights lit up, crowd atmosphere, and player face animations updated. The player faces can be hit and miss (some look like they belong in a wax museum), but the gameplay experience is so much fun that you just stop noticing. In fact, by making the controls limited for the PSP, it works in favor of the gameplay because it removes all of the complicated skill moves and lets you just enjoy playing football – how it should be.

Performance runs perfectly, even on older mobile devices, and the size is practically a fraction of other football games today. If you're a PES purist and want to have most of the current squads without trying to force a current-gen game onto the PSP, this mod is the answer you've been looking for. It's always satisfying to feel that "thunk" on the ball when you thump a volley into the back of the net.
